ZaneNet intends to do whatever we can in the coming weeks to help meet urgent needs, to aid in the recovery process, and to support our Haitian friends in this time of great suffering.
President Obama, in directing his administration “to respond with a swift, coordinated, and aggressive effort,” urged us “to keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers, as well as the many Haitian-Americans who have done so much to enrich our country and who are worried about friends and loved ones in this time of need.”
In that spirit, we offer the following links to organizations now active in the relief effort as worthy recipients of aid, should you wish to contribute.
International Action provides Haitians access to clean potable water and in several communities in Haiti distributes deworming Albendazole pills. In the emergency, it is helping the US task force going to Haiti to rebuild the water system in Port-au-Prince, supplying its list of all water systems in the capital city, gallons each produces and population served and making its chlorine stored in the city available to save lives in the crisis. American Red Cross is sending funds, disaster management specialists, relief shipments, and blood and blood products, while coordinating local Red Cross volunteers to aid fellow Haitians. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has sent medical items and ICRC staff, including engineers, a surgeon and family linking specialists. Other Red Cross partners have deployed a mobile hospital, medical teams, and 40 staff to help with sheltering, providing water, sanitation, and telecommunications.
